Program

 

The conference format will include four sessions per day. Lunch will not be provided but an extended lunch break will allow delegates to explore the town and local area. Two afternoon sessions will be followed by a poster session. The poster session will include a three minute rapid presentation from poster presenters. Dinner will be provided at the venue followed by a final keynote presentation.

The program will be arranged around the meeting themes, each headlined by one or two invited keynote speakers.

We invite both oral and poster presentations; the number of oral presentations will be limited by the time available; oral presentations will be at the the discretion of the SGTSG committee, selected after abstracts have been received.

Abstract Submissions

 

Abstract submission closes on the 31st of July 2019

The committee will contact authors to notify of acceptance and delivery method by late August.

Titles and abstracts must be submitted by email to: sgtsg2019@gmail.com

  • Please include SGTSG/SGSEG Abstract Submission in the email subject line

  • Please include full contact details, preferred conference theme and if you are requesting an oral or poster presentation in the body of the email

 

Abstracts should be submitted as an attached Microsoft Word document using the supplied template (click here to download the template). 

  • Please name the attached word file using the following format:

    • First name_Last name_Oral/Poster_abstract2019.docx

  • One of the authors must attend the conference and present the paper in an oral or poster presentation 

  • Abstracts cannot exceed 1 page (using the template’s layout and font style)

  • Illustrations and references are not permitted

  • The name of the presenting author should be underlined

 

Abstracts will be published in the Geological Society of Australia Abstract Series and made available as a digital download from the website prior to the conference start.

Oral and Poster Formats

 

Oral Presentations

Presentations should be compiled using Microsoft Powerpoint (or compatible software) and should be in 16:9 widescreen format.

Oral presentations from Keynote speakers will be 30 minutes including time for discussion.

All other presentations will be 12 minutes + 3 minutes for questions (total 15 minute slots).

 

Presenters should adhere to the set length to allow for discussion. Speakers will be given an indication when they have 2 minutes left of their allotted speaking time. Speakers will be asked to stop if they go beyond 2 minutes of their question time.

Posters

Posters will be hung from the ceiling against open wall spaces. It is important that the widths given below are not exceeded.

 

Posters must be presented in portrait orientation. The maximum size for posters is based on a standard portrait A0 sheet (841 mm wide x 1189 mm high) but over-sized heights up to a maximum of 1600 mm will be allowed. 

 

 

Student Bursaries

Conference Bursaries

Current undergraduate and postgraduate students are encouraged to apply for a conference bursary to assist with the cost of attending the conference. These bursaries are for a total of $500 each. In addition, the SGTSG will be providing a small number of bursaries to the value of $800 each to assist SGTSG student members to attend the pre-and post-conference field trips.

 

Students must submit an abstract to present either an oral or poster at the conference. Bursaries are only open to current financial GSA members at the time of application. Field trip bursaries are only available to current financial members of the SGTSG. Eligible applicants can apply for both the conference and field trip bursaries. Successful recipients will be required to acquit their bursary at the completion of the Conference by  writing a report for TAG. Non-completion of this acquittal will mean the recipient is no longer eligible for any future GSA funding. The total number of bursaries awarded and the final decision on recipients is at the sole discretion of the SGTSG and SGSEG committees.

 

Conference bursary applications close 30/09/2019. Field trip bursaries close 30/6/2019.
