Keynote speakers
Gideon Rosenbaum
Gideon Rosenbaum is a professor of structural geology and tectonics at the University of Queensland. He has worked extensively on convergent plate boundary processes in both modern and ancient environments. He has published >130 papers dealing mainly with the origin of curved orogenic belts (‘oroclines’), subduction segmentation, slab tearing, and the geodynamic controls on anomalous magmatism and ore formation. Prof Rosenbaum is currently the co-Editor-in-Chief for the journal Tectonophysics.
Caroline Tiddy
Caroline Tiddy is a Professor in Geosciences in the Future Industries Institute at Adelaide University. She is Chief Scientific Officer of MinEx CRC, which is the world’s largest collaborative research effort in mineral exploration and brings together industry, government and academia. Her research is dedicated to making the way we look for mineral deposits more environmentally friendly, and to ensuring we have adequate supply of the metals required to build renewable technologies that will address the issue of climate change. Caroline is a strong advocate for equity, diversity and inclusion in STEM, and contributes to numerous research programs and committees in this space. She is a Science & Technology Australia Superstar of STEM Alumni (2023-2024), and recipient of the Geological Society of Australia Garry Davidson medal (2021) for her contributions to applied geochemistry, and the Nell Ludbrook Medal (2026) for championing inclusive culture within the Earth sciences community.
Lyal Harris
Lyal Harris is a structural geology–geophysics professor at INRS, an applied research university in Québec City, Canada, integrating the interpretation of field and diverse geophysical data applied to regional metallogeny and tectonics. His recent projects focussed on controls of deep crustal and upper mantle structures on mineralisation in Precambrian and younger terrains worldwide. His research on Earth’s sister planet Venus provides an analogue for the Archaean Earth without plate tectonics. After his BSc (Hons) degree at Melbourne University, and work with Shell in Perth, Lyal completed postgraduate studies and taught in France, and then at UWA, Perth, before moving to Québec in 2003.
Megan Withers
Dr Megan Withers is a structural geologist whose research investigates how complex fault systems evolve and how deformation localises, migrates, and accumulates through time. Combining experimental tectonics with field observations, geospatial analysis, and advanced imaging techniques, her work explores the controls on fault architecture, earthquake processes, and subsurface fluid migration across scales from lithospheric tectonics to basin-scale systems.
Megan is a Post-Doctoral Research Fellow and Laboratory Manager at the University of Adelaide, where she is establishing the Adelaide GeoModelling Laboratory to support innovative research into tectonics, subsurface energy systems, and geological hazards. Her research programme investigates how lithospheric deformation and mechanical stratigraphy influence fault evolution, with applications to carbon capture and storage, hydrogen storage, and geothermal energy. She completed her PhD at Monash University, where she used analogue modelling to investigate transpressional and strike-slip fault systems, including applications to the Marlborough Fault System and the 2016 Kaikōura earthquake in New Zealand.
